NEECP at a glance

The Department of Energy has initiated the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program (NEECP) for the development of fuel efficiency and conservation program. This is an offshoot response to the prevailing trend and uncertainties brought about by the continued increase of oil prices in the world market. The implementation of various activities under the NEECP is a surefire indication of realizing its objective in making energy efficiency and conservation a way of life.

To complement the needed media mileage, an information and education campaign (IEC) was initiated and launched. Infomercials on fuel saving tips as well as the commitment of leading food chains to carry on the promotion of the NEECP, strengthened the public acceptance and impact.

An Energy Conservation Tips Contest through text messaging dubbed as the "Enercon sa Enertxt" is part of the NEECP to create an intensified program of interaction between DOE and the public. This contest has an informative concept to provide the necessary exposure of the energy conservation and efficiency measures and practices. Highlights of questios are focused on electricity efficiency and fuel conservation that will surely trigger challenge and excitement to encourage the public to participate in the contest. Enercon sa Enertxt is expected to create awareness on the program of NEECP that will redound to its objective of making energy efficiency and conservation a way of life.

The active participation and valuable support of the public by way of practicing the energy conservation measures would translate to realistic gains for the country. Ordinary consumers in turn will be benefited in terms of lower electric bill and become more efficient and more conscious about the products or services they avail in the market.

With the goal of improving utilization of all forms of energy by all users through the energy efficiency and conservation program, the NEECP has laid the foundation and unleashed the program to a good start. Several slated activities "Enercon sa Enertext" are underway to further enhance the program that will generate the intended results of ultimately attaining the country’s target toward energy efficiency and independence and savings.
