You are the best gas saving device!
The
driving technique of the individual behind the wheel is the most important
single element in determining the fuel economy of any motor vehicle -- car,
utility vehicle, truck, bus, motorcycle, and trailer. One authority insists a
careful driver can get at least 30 percent more mileage than the average driver
can, and 50 percent more than the wasteful one.
Vehicle tuned up to operate at or close to sea level are less fuel efficient when they get to a higher elevation and vice versa due to difference in air density.
Fill your fuel tank in the morning when it is cool. Never fill your tank to the brim.
Drive off immediately after starting, but at a low speed. The engine will warp up faster and lubricate better.
Do not let the motor idle for long. Turn off the engine. It takes less gasoline to restart the car than it takes to let it idle. Generally, there is no need to press the accelerator down to restart a warm engine.
The
most efficient speed is between 75 to 90 kph. On a highway, maintain steady
speed. (See Figure 1)
Always keep a manual transmission in the highest gear possible without straining the engine. (See Figure 2).
